What you need to know ...

When are you open?

We are open April thru November. Our hours are subject to change - Please call for our hours. All riding is weather permitting !! Please call before heading out to ride if you're in doubt. 

How long are the trail rides? 

The first come, first serve group rides are approximately 45 minutes in length. 

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes. Please contact us for more details. 

What should I do when I get to the stable?

Please come to the booth to check in and fill out a release form. If a rider is under 18 years of age the release form must be filled out by parent or legal guardian. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. 

Release forms can also be downloaded from the Release Form page and filled out prior to arrival.

Do I need to fill out a release form?

Yes, everyone that rides must fill out a release form. If under 18 years of age the release form has to be filled out by parent or legal guardian. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.

Do I need experience to ride?

No experience is necessary, and we will give instruction before leaving, plus there is a trail guide to assist. However, if we feel that someone can not ride safely then we may not allow them to go on the trail ride. 

When is the best time to come out to ride? 

Unless you have a reservation for a private ride - then all of our trail rides are first come first serve. The earlier in the day maybe a less busy time. Usually if you wait until the the end of the day there maybe a longer wait time. 

What happens if there are high temperatures? 

If it is too hot we will close early for our horses safety. We appreciate your understanding in this matter. 

Forms of Payment

Please understand we are a small and seasonal business. We accept cash.

We do have a cashless ATM. This can be used as long as you have a  PIN number for that card. You must have a PIN to make a transaction. There is a 99 cent transaction fee with the use of this machine.  Because it is a cashless ATM your bank or credit card may also charge a fee to use the machine as well. 

Can I write a check?

We accept checks only for deposits paid in advance. Deposits are non-refundable.

Do I need to make a reservation?

No Reservations Required for hourly rentals. However reservations are neccessary for the following: Groups of 8 or more, Merit Badges, Youth groups, Lessons, Private rides, Photo shoots, Camp fire rides, Birthday Parties, and Hayrides. Deposits for these events are non-refundable. As a very small business please be understanding. Do not make
a reservation if you’re not okay with this policy.


What should I wear?

Long pants, durable boots or shoes ... something with a small heel works great. Please no open toed shoes (no flip flops or high heels), no carry on objects, purses, bags, camera, phone, etc.

Are the rides guided?

Yes. For your safety and our horses all our rides are guided.

Do you have an age limit?

Yes. All children must be at least 8 years of age to ride on the guided trail ride. We do have pony rides for younger children.

Do I need a vehicle permit to come horseback riding?

Yes. We are located inside Maybury State Park and a Recreation Passport is required for entry to park.

Effective Jan. 1, 2018 the price is $16 when purchased at state parks.
Effective Jan. 1, 2018, the DNR added a $5 convenience fee for Recreation Passport purchases (Michigan-registered vehicles only) made at state parks, DNR customer service centers and other designated areas. It can still be purchased for $11 (or $6 motorcycles) when purchased at the time of the annual license plate renewal at the Secretary of State.

What about bad weather?

The stable will close early due to dangerous riding conditions, high winds, heavy rains, or extreme heat. You will be contacted if you have a ride scheduled. Questionable weather? give us a call or visit our Facebook page for the most up to date information.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

We recommend that everyone wear a helmet (we supply them.) We require children 17 yrs and younger to wear a riding helmet. We provide riding helmets for our young riders for free. Please no bike helmets, you may bring your own riding helmet if it is ASTM certified. We also have helmets available for purchase, this is a great investment for any horse lover.

Do you have helmets available to purchase?

Yes. Although you can borrow one of our helmets to wear on your ride. If you would like to purchase your own we do carry ASTM certified riding helmets for those that would like their own. This is a great investment for the horse lovers out there. 

Do you have a weight limit?

Yes. For your safety and the safety of our horses all riders must weigh less than 220 pounds.

Can my grandparents ride?

Horsebackriding may not be suitable for the elderly, or individuals, with arthritic conditions, joint replacements,back injuries etc. 

Can we ride double?

For the comfort of our horses and your safety no double riding is allowed. 

Can I ride if I'm pregnant?

No, for the safety of you and your baby we do not allow pregnant riders.

What style of riding do you offer?

All of our rides are western. 

Why are your hours for group rides so short?

Short answer we will not over work our horses. When you ride with us you can ride comfortably knowing that our horses are happy and well taken care of. We will not over work them just to stay open later in the evening. 

Also, We do all of our Large groups, private rides, lessons, summer horse camps and birthday parties by reservation. The Noon to 2:30 time slot is just for our Regular group rides which are first come, first serve.  If you don't want to wait we recommend scheduling a private ride for you and your party.
